Though going for a lighter hair color in the summertime isn’t necessarily a revolutionary idea, hairstylists keep coming up with gorgeous new ways to take on the trend, including sunset pastel hair and opal hair. But if you’re not into unconventional colors, there are still plenty of ways to go lighter that are just as creative, as Moscow-based hairstylist Pavel Sheff has proved with one of his latest creations, the blurred blonde look.
For this transformation, he took his client (who was already blonde) from a more yellow-toned color with her grown-out roots to a lighter, ash-toned blonde. The “blurred” part comes in at the root, which is slightly darker than the ends of the hair but is graduated — no harsh lines here. A translation of the caption tells us that this transformation was done during a master class and that Sheff was thoroughly pleased with the new look, as it gave his client’s hair new life. Sheff tagged Olaplex in the hashtags, so it’s likely that it was used to help safely lighten her color. If you’re not familiar with Olaplex, Allure has a thorough explainer on the treatment, including why stylists love it and how it works to protect hair from chemical damage.
This isn’t the first time he’s done the blur technique on blonde clients. Scrolling through some before and after pictures on his Instagram, it looks like a great way to color correct or change the tone of blonde hair, so consider this technique next time you want to change things up.
